Provisional Patent Application (PPA)

Provisional Patent Application -- CLICK for more info.A typical first step to protect your IP is to file a Provisional Patent Application (PPA). We can help to quickly file your PPA. Please read on!

A PPA has specific advantages in terms of cost, time to prepare, and filing. While not suited for everyone, many inventors—both large and small—find a Provisional Patent Application (available from the USPTO since 1995) an advantageous and cost-effective approach to protecting their IP.

A Provisional Patent Application is not limited to citizenship, so, for example, a PPA may be filed for a non-US citizen located outside of the United States. A PPA could be the first step for a PCT application.

PPA Quick-File

An economical, fast service

The PPA Quick-File service is our most economical service. It's quick and is tailored for inventors who can write a full PPA , according to ours or similar guidelines—on their own, without our review. Filing with the USPTO is included in this service.

PPA Quick-File is also attractive to companies wishing to file a number of provisional patent applications—at a fraction of the cost of traditional law offices.

PPA-Quick-File includes the following:

- You receive our PPA guidelines—for you to write your PPA.
- You send us your PPA by email.*
- We file your PPA, as received, with the USPTO, usually within 1-2 business days of receipt of your PPA.
- We pay the USPTO PPA filing fee.
- We serve as your patent agent / patent attorney of record with the USPTO for your PPA.
We can later work with you, separately, to write and file a non-provisional patent application.

* The list above is a overview of the PPA services included in PPA-Quick-File. In addition, we need to receive your signed NDA-Service Agreement to proceed.

Small Entity vs Large Entity

The USPTO allows reduced provisional patent fees to be paid by "small entities", usually understood to be smaller inventors and small companies. More exact definitions may be found in 13 CFR 121.801 through 121.805.
